Here I explain the purpose, objectives and plans for the Crowdfunding Genome Project. In brief, this project’s most important contribution is to raise awareness of a systemic lack of free tools in personal genomics. By releasing our family data publicly, we intend to stimulate the development of free software tools for interpretation of personal genomes so that anyone interested in learning about his/her personal genome, regardless of any background or acquisitive power, can do it for free in a manner that is comparable to what private services can do now today.
