From now on, every time I present any research work involving the analysis of indigenous populations, I will present these 3 Statements:

Statement 1: Respect for Peoples and Traditions

– I fully respect the indigenous peoples and their rich traditions

– My work with indigenous genome data is conducted with the utmost sensitivity and acknowledgment of the cultural significance and heritage of their civilisation

– I strive to honour their legacy and ensure that my research upholds the dignity and respect owed to their descendants

Statement 2: Condemnation of Genetic Colonialism

– I unequivocally condemn genetic colonialism in all its forms

– My research is guided by a commitment to ethical standards and practices that respect the autonomy and rights of indigenous populations

– I am dedicated to ensuring that the benefits of genomic research are shared equitably with the communities involved

Statement 3: Building Trust in Science

– I recognise the historical and ongoing distrust in science among indigenous populations

– I endeavour to build bridges through transparency, collaboration, and dialogue

– I aim to contribute positively to the relationship between science and indigenous peoples, promoting trust and cooperation
